Why send an extra "0" in the color map, and "

It seems that sending any command to the AVRcam ends not only in "\r" but "\r\n".
Why?
Also, when sending the map, it looks like 49 numbers are being sent...
Why, and is the "extra" one in the begining, end, or...?
